Take a tip from the real estate market: buy cheap and fix it up yourself. The best way to guarantee you get exactly what you want is to get your hands dirty and solve the problem on your own anyway so why wouldn't it be the same way when shopping for furniture? It is especially easy to do when the piece you're looking for is small and made of wood like a corner bookcase.

The first step in fixing up a cheap corner bookcase would be to go out and buy a cheap corner bookcase. When I'm shopping for cheap furniture I always check Craigslist first. Craigslist is one of the best online retailers because it has classified listings of all different kinds and they are all local to your area. You can find everything from corner bookcases to bedroom lamps to snow boarding equipment, there really isn't a limit to the amount of stuff on that website.

If you're unable to find anything of value on Craigslist the next option would be to go outside and visit some garage sales. People are always getting rid of old junk and usually an old corner bookcase will fall into this category. You can probably barter your way to a bookcase costing like five dollars or something super cheap like that.

Now that you have purchased an incredibly cheap bookcase you're probably staring at it and wondering what the hell to do. Firs things first, you need to decide how messed up this bookcase really is. Does it just need a paint or stain job and it's good to go? Is it rough around the edges and needs to be sanded down and polished up? Do you need to put some new shelves into it or replace parts of the foundation?

Once you've figured out what the corner bookcase needs it is time to get to work. Head out to your local hardware store and get the proper tools and equipment. Maybe you've done this before and already have all of the necessary supplies, if so, that's great. Start fixing up that cheap corner bookcase now and before you know it you'll have a fabulous brand new looking piece of furniture in the corner of your bedroom or den.
